After my most successful year to date (2022), and a great deal of reflection, I attributed much of my monetary and personal strides forward and upward to one thing last year: spending more time offline. Less time in the digital "world", less distractions, less inputs, and more playful time to create and enjoy the physical world around me. More of the "good stuff". So in December 2022, that left me thinking, reflecting, dreaming..... what if I gave myself the gift of being "offline" for a period of time, removing this distraction, and see what might blossom from it? The idea made me extremely excited and so I decided to go for it.
SO, I am beyond excited to announce starting Mid-January 2023, I will be taking a pause from social media and the online world. I will utilize this time to work on some dream projects I've been longing to do, one of them being to paint large.
A typical artist in residency is an opportunity for artists to "live and work outside of their usual environments, providing them with time to reflect, research, or produce work. These types of experiences can be a type of temporary paradise for any artist as they provide a home away from home without the distractions of everyday life."
For me, the goal of this self-directed artist in residency is to remove everyday digital distractions in order to hone and focus on painting from an intuitive heart-felt place. My focus is to create purely from a playful place. I aim to simply explore the relationship between my painting practice and how it is influenced or not influenced by the digital world by removing it altogether.
I will be recording my time, sharing long-form writing on my blog as I go, and sending periodic studio updates. I will continue to reply to emails and upon conclusion of my project share in this space what I've learned. I am excited to share the work that comes out of this dream project and will be actively looking for a physical place to display my work after I'm finished.
